Booking it to Istanbul

Rich architecture? Turkish Baths? Grand Bazaars? Yes, please! I am headed to Turkey in a month and I honestly could not be more excited! For as long as I can remember, Istanbul has been a one of my top 3 cities to see in the world. My time has come! It's always been a part of the world that really fascinates me, historically one of the oldest cities right where the east meets the west. A fusion of so many rich cultures and dedicated religions, and of course lets not forget the Grand Bazaar. Rumor has it, the shopping is out of this world.  Friends have told me taking over an empty suitcase is a must,  consumer-heaven (and affordable). Bah! I can't wait. I'm headed to Europe for a work trip, but I of course need to take on a long weekend beforehand, so Turkey is my golden stop.

Do any of you have any must sees why I am there? I of course will see the Hagia Sophia, Basilica Cistern, Blue Mosque, but anything off the beaten track that I should check out? What about a boat tour, worth it? Would love your inside scoop on Istanbul!

  10. I LOVE Istanbul. My sisters and mom and I go every couple of years. Go to a Turkish bath! So much fun and refreshing! Go to the Spice Bazaar too! The Grand Bazaar is great but can be really confusing. The Spice Bazaar is super easy to navigate. The Hagia Sophia is my absolute favorite, though. It's incredible.

  12. My favorite city! I've been twice ( on both a luxurious family vacation and as a study away) and wish I could be going again! I highly recommend the Modern Art Museum, it is right on the water and a unique collection. Off the beaten path are the Princes Islands. Go to Buyukada, St. Georges Monastery is there. There are no cars, only horse drawn carriages, the views are magnificent.
At night Istiklal Street is the place to be! This is the true, new Turkey. Feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions! (kelsey.tennyson@gmail.com)
