California Winter

As much as I say I miss the seasons from living in Utah (college) and New York (post college), it's really hard to beat a California winter. The weather is commonly beautiful and the beaches are empty.

We had a mini stay-cation this weekend with our friends who invited us down to Orange County to their beach house in Capistrano Beach. Their place was only 5 minutes from my hometown, and yet still felt like a complete vacation and escape from all real life. I was showing my coworker today photos of my weekend, and he commented "Why do you live at the beach and then spend your weekends visiting other beaches?"(Ha! Great question) I don't know. I guess I can't leave the ocean. It just does something to me. I am one of those weird people that actually likes feeling a little sand in my bed. When I was in college and I would come home to Laguna Beach for holiday breaks, I remember driving through the Laguna Canyon towards Pacific Coast Highway and always wanting to roll down the windows to smell the salt, it just meant home to me.

It's funny how you don't really appreciate those little quirks until you move away. Do you have any favorite things, that maybe only mean something to you, but remind you of your home/childhood?

  1. I'm the same as you! Grew up looking at the beach. I have lived in Idaho, Arizona, and now Michigan. NO beaches. It just makes going home extra special :)

  2. New follower here! When I left Austin, Tx. for BYU, I missed the humidity something fierce! Missed 'drinking' my air and not having to wear lotion 24/7. I sure miss the fall in Provo though...
